How close can we fly to Pocahontas, and what about a rental car?

Private planes, including small jets, can land at the Pocahontas airport, which is less than 2 miles from Lesmeister Guesthouse. The airport has a courtesy car that’s available on a first come, first served basis. Contact the airport at 870-248-1141 or  870-926-1513 for details. There is no other local car rental available. The nearest car rental agency is about 40 minutes away, in Jonesboro. One possibility is borrowing the courtesy car to drive to Jonesboro and rent a more long-term driving solution, if there’s a second driver with you to drive the courtesy car back to Pocahontas.

The closest airport with commercial flights and car rental is Jonesboro, Arkansas, (JBR) which is about 40 minute drive from Pocahontas. JBR offers Hertz car rental. Very few flights fly into Jonesboro, however.

The closest large airport is Memphis, Tennessee, (MEM) which is about a 90 minute drive from Pocahontas. We are also about 2-1/2 hours from the Little Rock, Arkansas, (LIT) airport. These larger airports offer multiple car rental options.

How do we find you?

Pocahontas has no taxi or mass transportation service so you’ll need a car to get to us. There is a “zoomable” area map of the Lesmeister location here. Click [-] to zoom the map out and see where in the world we are. Click [+] to zoom in for a close-up view. The Lesmeister’s street address is 208 N Marr Street, Pocahontas, Arkansas, 72455 and the GPS coordinates are
36° 15′ 43.43″ N     90° 58′ 12.20″ W (elevation 319 feet/97 meters above sea level)

Do you have hi-speed Internet, phone, and TV?

Of course! And it’s all free of additional charge: high-speed Wi-Fi Internet, a telephone (Pocahontas also has good mobile phone connectivity), and cable TV including HBO. Each Lesmeister apartment and suite has several televisions as well as a DVD/Blu-ray player. Bring your own DVDs. Here’s a link to the current cable TV channel lineup. We subscribe to all the HBO channels, but we don’t get Starz, Showtime, or Cinemax.

Is there a minimum age to make a reservation?

Yes. While we welcome people of all ages to stay with us, at least one person in your group must be age 24 or older. If we find that no one in your group meets this age requirement, you will be asked to leave our property and forfeit all payments you made.

[hr top]

Are children welcome?

Yes. Our properties feature an upscale, adult atmosphere, but well-behaved children are certainly welcome. We do, however, request that children under the age of 13 not be left alone in the suites and apartments while the adults in your party are away. In the two Lesmeister apartments we do charge an additional $10 per person, per night, if there are more than 2 people in your apartment, and children count as people! At least one person in your party must be age 24 or older.

Can you arrange for us to fish the rivers, take float trips, hire a guide, etc.?

We can sure try, though it’s all subject to availability and the season of the year. Just let us know what you need and we’ll see what we can do to help.
To make arrangements for fishing and other river excursions on the Eleven Point River, contact “La Dolce Vita Arkansas.” Mable will be happy to help you plan and enjoy your time on the river!

What’s there to do in Pocahontas?

You’ll be surprised at how much activity we have for a small town. See our Area Attractions page and the Local Events Calendar for full list of things to do here.

Where can I get groceries and supplies?

You’ll find maps and complete information in the welcome booklet we place in your bedroom.

Pocahontas has a Walmart Supercenter just across the river from our properties at GPS coordinates
36° 15′ 04.28″ N     90° 57′ 48.15″ W (elevation 260 feet/79 meters above sea level)

We also have a large grocery store called Price Chopper at GPS coordinates
36° 15′ 16.10″ N     90° 58′ 28.27″ W (elevation 264 feet/80 meters above sea level)

What do we need to bring?

We furnish most of what you need, including bed sheets, pillows, comforters, towels, washcloths, and soap. In the two apartments we also provide kitchen utensils, wine glasses, silverware, plates, pots and pans. You should bring whatever you would generally take to stay at a nice hotel. Bring your DVDs if you want to use the DVD/Blu-Ray player.

Note that we are in a “dry” county, meaning there are no liquor stores in the county, though you can enjoy alcohol with meals at Bella Piazza Italian Restaurant, across Marr Street from the Lesmeister building. Bella Piazza is the only place in town where you can buy alcohol. It’s for consumption with your meal, not for carry out, but if you buy a bottle of wine and don’t finish it with your meal, they’ll re-cork the bottle and let you take it with you in a brown bag.

To have alcoholic beverages for consumption at The Lesmeister, you’ll need to bring it with you, or do a little driving after you get here (it’s a 26 minute drive). We have maps and driving directions to the to the nearest liquor stores in the welcome booklet you’ll find in your room.

Will we have to share a bathroom with strangers?

Absolutely not! Each unit has a private bathroom.

Accessibility for the disabled:

  • The Julia Dean apartment in the front of the Lesmeister building is our most accessible unit. It has easy access right of the city sidewalk with no stairs. The sidewalk has a ramp at both street corners for wheelchair access from street to sidewalk. The Julia Dean is all on one level. No stairs. All doors are wide enough for wheel chair access, and the bathroom is large enough for easy wheel chair maneuverability. The bathroom lavatories and the kitchen sink are open beneath, for knee space if you need to sit at the sink. The Julia Dean toilet and tub/shower unit have grab bars. We have a removable bench for the tub if you need to sit while bathing.
  • The Jeff Thompson suite, also in the front of the building, has the same easy access from the street as has the Julia Dean (described above), with no stairs involved. The suite and its bathroom are roomy, but it doesn’t have grab bars around the toilet, and the bathroom lavatories have no “knee space” beneath them.
  • The suites and apartment in the back of the building are not appropriate for a person in a wheel chair, or for anyone who has difficulty climbing a few stairs, since it’s necessary to climb a few steps to use these units. These units don’t have grab bars around their toilets. The Laurel apartment is large and roomy, but it’s spread over 3 levels, with 6 steps down from the living area to reach the kitchen/bathroom level, and another 5 steps down from the kitchen level to reach the bedroom area. Both the Stanley and the de Mun suites are on 2 levels, requiring climbing of 5 steps between the living area and the bed area.

What can I expect the weather to be like when we’re there?

Arkansas weather is always unpredictable. We have all four seasons well represented, without harsh winters. The summer months are warm to hot with cooling local thunder showers a few times during the week.  We have our dry times, and our wet times.  Weather Forecast

Is an advance deposit required before we arrive?

We charge your first night’s lodging at the time your reservation is made. This assures that your lodging will be held for the date(s) you have requested. We will collect any balance due on your account after you arrive, payable by charge card or cash as you wish.

[hr top]

What is your checkout procedure?

Since any balance due on your account is collected on your arrival day, you don’t need to locate us to check out. Just close the door as you leave and make sure everything is locked up.

Please leave things as you found them (no need to make the beds…we’ll be changing them and the towels).  All dishes should be washed and put away. Please remove any opened food from the refrigerator and cabinets and place it in the trash receptacle.

In case of a medical emergency, where would we go?

The “Five Rivers Medical Center” in Pocahontas is a 46-bed hospital with a well-equipped and staffed emergency room. Emergency helicopter service is always on call should a transfer to a larger hospital in Memphis or Little Rock be required. Full emergency information is in the welcome booklet you’ll find in your bedroom when you arrive.

Do you accept the State of Arkansas per diem rate?

Sorry, but no. The state per diem is less than we can accept.
