Hiking the Randolph County Trail of Tears

lilep

We’ve prepared a driving or hiking route that makes it possible to trace the December, 1838 Trail of Tears through Randolph County, Arkansas while staying on public roads. Since the Benge Route of the Trail through our county followed the roads that existed at the time (the “Old Military Road” built by the Federal government right after the Louisiana Purchase), most of the route is on land that’s still used as roads here today.

The prepared route highlights points of interest along the way, and suggests daily hiking goals and possible camping spots or drop off/pick up points. The route presentation is available as a PDF file  (it takes a moment to download).
