Lesmeister Guesthouse: Discover the Heart of Pocahontas!

[smartslider3 slider=2]
  • All Lesmeister suites and apartments have their own private outside entry door, so you’ll never come close to other guests when you stay with us!

  • In light of the COVID-19 situation, we block off rooms a day before arrivals and a day after guests leave, so the room has time for our extensive cleaning and disinfecting to take full effect before someone new arrives.

  • We’re also running our washers and dryers on high heat to make sure nothing harmful can survive the cleaning process.

  • The pandemic put over half the restaurants in our town out of business, but there is a good pub/restaurant, Aleene’s on the Square, just a block and a half from the Lesmeister. They offer full bar and dine in or carry out service, and occasionally they have live music. There are several other places to eat just a short drive from the Lesmeister.

Currently in Arkansas you must wear a face mask in all public places, if 6-foot distancing cannot be maintained. If you chose to dine inside a restaurant in Arkansas, everyone in your party needs to wear a face mask when you go in (you can remove it to eat once your food/drink arrives). Restaurants have tables set up at 50% capacity to allow for distancing.

EXPERIENCE The Lesmeister! The result of a $1 million architectural restoration, a stay here puts guests in a beautiful, rehabilitated 1902 commercial building with 21st century comforts including green practices. With no staff on site, the Lesmeister offers independent travelers a secluded place to call home. We offer a well-appointed retreat, with upscale lodging centrally located in the heart of a 17-block national historic district. Lesmeister Guesthouse offers a restful escape from your busy life, or an active time spent seeing and doing in a classic American hill town.  The choice is yours!

A Video Tour

You’re on your own! Custom wood doors and moldings, original ornate ceilings and restored wall colors recreate the feel of life in Pocahontas during the Theodore Roosevelt administration. Our unique, opulent suites and apartments offer a restful escape that is perfect for quiet getaways, honeymoons, anniversaries and other special occasions. Each unit is named for people and things that played important parts in Pocahontas history. We’ll send you directions to find your accommodations, and a 4-digit code to open the door. Then come and go as  you like!

Located in the rolling eastern Ozark Mountains just 90 minutes from Memphis, we can help occupy you with things to see and do here, or you can relax and enjoy what the Italians call  “il dolce far niente,” the sweetness of doing nothing!

We are at the starting point of three of Arkansas’ four heritage trails: The Southwest Trail, The Trail of Tears, and The Civil War Trail, here in Arkansas, “The Natural State”!

You’re pretty much on your own during your stay with us. In place of door keys, we will send you a 4-digit code you’ll enter into a keypad on your door each time you want to unlock the door. Reservation Terms: While we allow single night stays, we’d love to have you spend a week or more with us (special weekly and monthly rates available)! A deposit equal to one night’s stay is required at the time of reservation.

We furnish a starter supply of coffee & creamers, soap, toilet paper, etc., but we’re not a hotel with on-site staff or daily service. If you run out of something, just do what you’d do at home: stop by a store and get what you need. All the local supermarkets and Walmart sell the coffee pods and most other supplies.

For longer stays, we DO provide housekeeping service once a week for general cleaning, change of bedding and towels, and replenishment of supplies.

Accessibility for the disabled:

  • The Julia Dean apartment in the front of the Lesmeister building is our most accessible unit. It has easy access right off the city sidewalk with no stairs. The sidewalk has a ramp at both street corners for wheelchair access from street to sidewalk.

The Julia Dean is all on one level. No stairs. All doors are wide enough for wheel chair access, and the bathroom is large enough for easy wheel chair maneuverability. The bathroom lavatories and the kitchen sink are open beneath, for knee space if you need to sit at the sink. The Julia Dean toilet and tub/shower unit have grab bars. We have a removable bench for the tub if you need to sit while bathing.

  • The Jeff Thompson suite, also in the front of the building, has the same easy access from the street as has the Julia Dean (described above), with no stairs involved. The suite and its bathroom are roomy, but it doesn’t have grab bars around the toilet, and the bathroom lavatories have no “knee space” beneath them.

  • The suites and apartment in the back of the building are not appropriate for a person in a wheel chair, or for anyone who has difficulty climbing a few stairs, since it’s necessary to climb a few steps to use these units. These units don’t have grab bars around their toilets.

The Laurel apartment is large and roomy, but it’s spread over 3 levels, with 6 steps down from the living area to reach the kitchen/bathroom level, and another 5 steps down from the kitchen level to reach the bedroom area.

Both the Stanley and the de Mun suites are on 2 levels, requiring climbing of 5 steps between the living area and the bed area.

Cancellation Policy: You can cancel a reservation and receive a refund of your reservation deposit, less a $25 cancellation fee, as long as the cancellation is made at least one week before your scheduled arrival date. If you cancel on less than one week’s notice, or if you do not show up for your reservation at all, we will charge you for two night’s lodging (or for one night if you only booked one night) unless we are able to rent the room to someone else on short notice.
