TV Film Crew Visits Ravenden Springs

Chuck-Dovish

I (Patrick Carroll) spent Friday afternoon hiking in Hall’s Creek Canyon at nearby Ravenden Springs with Chuck Dovish (above) and his cameraman from the Exploring Arkansas program on Arkansas Public Television (AETN). They’re preparing a segment on the canyon for their TV program. We were guided by Ravenden Springs resident Bud Compton, who grew up around the canyon and knows all about it.

aetn-TVI haven’t been in the canyon since I was about 15 years old. It has become overgrown with trees since those days, which makes it hard to see features such as the raven’s den, and the lone rock. But we had a nice stop at the deep rock pool known as the Devil’s Bathtub, and the cave where Caleb Lindsey taught the first school in what’s now Arkansas, as well as the “Elephant Cave”. We hold strong hopes that, with time, money will be found to clean out the underbrush in the canyon, and to rebuild the trails to make hiking and enjoying the canyon as fun as it was when I was 15 years old!

Chuck said the segment on the Ravenden Springs canyon is scheduled to air July 6 at 6:30 p.m. on AETN.
