Impatient Owner Strikes Again

This evening I accomplished some more at The Lesmeister Guesthouse (I can get a lot done after those carpenters leave for the day!) Photos below.

Since they installed the new doors on the front of the building several months ago, there has been a deadbolt on each door to lock it, but no doorknob to pull the door shut to lock it. So the carpenters duct taped a stick to each door’s glass and they pulled on that to close the door.

Today I had to remove all that so I could clean the glass and etch it. I etched the name of each apartment on the doors so guests will know they’ve found the right apartment. Since there was no way to pull the door closed anymore, I also installed the combination lock on The Julia Dean apartment so from now on, to enter that apartment you have to enter the correct code.

Door to The Laurel apartment. Reflected in the glass you can see the new porch rails and, on the right, part of the divider wall that divides the porch into two private areas so each apartment can have its own outdoor area. A door in the divider can be opened if both parties know each other and want to share the whole porch space.

This shows the type lock that’s now on the door to The Julia Dean apartment. On the right is what is on the inside of the door, but there are no “lock/unlock” buttons. I’ve set it to ALWAYS be locked if the door is shut, like any hotel room. So in place of the lock/unlock buttons, there a plate with the Lesmeister logo. Guests will receive a unique 4-digit code they’ll enter to unlock the door to their vacation rental apartment.
