Arkansas’ Oldest Drug Store

There has been a drug store at the corner of Bettis Street and Broadway on the town square in Pocahontas since 1852, making it the oldest pharmacy in Arkansas at the same location. The Futrell family has owned and operated the pharmacy there for the last 50 years, so 2012 is a big celebration year for them.

A visit to Futrell’s takes you back in time. They still have a soda fountain and they still make a great milkshake and serve hot coffee! If you get there between 7 and 8 a.m., though, don’t expect to get a seat at a table because that’s the Pocahontas old timers hour at Futrell’s and the regulars will already occupy every seat in the place, as they exchange stories and discuss the local rumor mill.
