The Downtown Playhouse Opens July 25!

I’m excited to see that The Downtown Playhouse opens Saturday July 25 next door to The Lesmeister, with the play “A Time to Kill”. a new play based on John Grisham’s 1989 courtroom drama of the same name. I see a stay at The Lesmeister and a stroll next door to see a play or other presentation as being a perfect getaway combo!

Months of work have turned the old Imperial movie theater building into a beautiful (enchanting, actually) facility in downtown Pocahontas.

One interesting thing I note from their website is their “Nine-Thirty Club”. Here’s what they say about that:

After the show…it’ll be about 9:30 pm, and a bunch of the actors usually hang around and have another cup of coffee and another piece of pie, and just have a lot of laughs…talk about the show…and sometimes, we get a little goofy and lip sync to our favorite song, or tell our favorite joke! But, most of all we just enjoy each other’s company! If you’d like to be in the Nine-Thirty Club, just hang around after you’ve watched the show…and VOILA you’re a “member”! Yeah, it’s cool! Lots of fun, and great “down” time.

A Time to Kill will be presented July 25 & 31, August 1, 7, 8, 9, 21, 22, 23, 28 & 29. Other activities they’re planning include…

  • The plays “Noises Off”, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, “Prisoner of 2nd Avenue”, and of course many more.
  • Music concerts including solo, ensemble and choral events from a wide-ranging regional roster of artists.
  • A lecture series bringing the homespun views of life as a cowboy, through the verses presented by a Cowboy Poet, or perhaps a well-known figure in history through a presentation such as “A Day in the Life of Abraham Lincoln”, and so much more!
